UNREAL CITY ARTIST STATEMENT

I am intrigued by the forces of nature against civilization. Rust, moss, mold and other natural entities are constantly at battle with our built world. Every item that we create is destined to disappear, even if it takes millennia.

 

Our urban and suburban landscapes change dramatically in a few short years if they are neglected and left to their own paths. My work is based on interpreting what deterioration might occur in a manmade space. Rather than photograph actual deteriorating spaces, sometimes referred to as "ruin porn", I use vintage and original photos then embroider leaves, vines, water, trees, rocks and other natural elements onto the photograph.

 

I have no idea if these buildings and interiors are still around, but imagine what they might look like had nature crept in.
