AMERICAN KRIVOPETA
After discovering that my heritage was predominately Slovenian, I wanted to learn more about the culture. I found the folktale of the Krivopete (plural version of Krivopeta) to be very impactful.
Neither witches, spirits nor goddesses, Krivopete are human women who choose to live in the forests. They are very powerful and can be an asset or a liability to country folk. They can control the weather, help crops, and aid in domestic chores such as baking, cheesemaking and midwifery.

However, if they are disrespected or ignored, they can turn fields fallow, unlease storms, make crops fail or spoil milk. If they are harmed, they will kidnap and eat children.
They're known by their green hair and backwards facing feet.
My goal is to create powerful Krivopete from historical images of women from the Great Depression and give them the power they deserved, but probably didn't have in their own lives.
